Spanish Language Heritage Program
The Spanish Heritage Language program is designed for students who may be fluent in Spanish or have limited exposure to Spanish. The goals of our program are to lead students to become bilingual and biliterate, to meet all state academic content standards in the two languages, and to foster sociocultural competence. Our program will provide one hour of synchronous instruction in Spanish Language Arts and one hour of synchronous English Language Development. Spanish Language Arts will focus on the five language domains of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and oral development as well as include many aspects of the home culture of the heritage language student. English Language Development is designed to further develop listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills to achieve English Language proficiency by addressing the social, instructional, and academic language that students need to engage with peers, educators, and curriculum in school.
The Spanish Heritage Language program will continue in the 2022-2023 school year with Kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade students with additional content areas and grades to be added in upcoming school years.
If you are interested in having your incoming Kindergarten, 1st grade or 2nd grade student participate in the program, please complete the form below.
