Vol. 1 Issue 6 - January 11, 2021
Welcome Back!
We hope that you enjoyed the much deserved break and have had a smooth start to the second semester. With the new semester comes new opportunities including the ability to take advantage of all we have learned from last semester. Let's get off to a fantastic start! With that in mind, if you have burning questions or lingering concerns, please take time to reach out to us. You can reach eCADEMY K8 staff via ParentVUE, email or by clicking the envelope next to their name on our website's Contact Us page.
Partnering for Success
Dragon Lair Cafe
We have been offering workshops for families to better navigate the this virtual learning environment, as well as offering topics we believe will be beneficial to families as a resource. Our next Dragon Lair Cafe will be livestreamed at 6:00 PM, on January 19th. This Special Education Dragon Lair Cafe is an opportunity for parents to submit questions and get answers to help support their understanding of special education at eCADEMY K8. During this session, parents and families of students in special education can learn about strategies to use at home, tools to encourage engagement and resources for our students with many different needs. Questions can be submitted via the Dragon Lair link in the special education newsletter each month.
Visit our website calendar for the link to the YouTube live session, or consider subscribing to our YouTube channel.
After School Clubs
Starting new in semester 2.... an after school club, just for you! We now have several options to choose from and club leaders are anxious to hear from and meet with interested students. Students and families should take a look at out Clubs and Activites page for more information. Students, if you find a club that you are interested in, visit the club's website and sign up. If you need more information, send the club leader a message. Feel free to use your APS Gmail account, StudentVUE messages or, click on the envelope next to the teacher's name on our website's contact us page. All clubs are scheduled to start next week.
eCADEMY K8 Social
Media
eCADEMY K8 has staked its claim in the social media worlds of Twitter and YouTube. We are looking forward to taking advantage of both of these platforms to share successes and connect with families. Our Twitter account will be used as a supplement to the official communications that are sent out to families via Schoolmessenger and Synergy and will never contain critical information shared through these channels. However, we do hope to Tweet out celebratory notes or helpful reminders for families. If you don't use Twitter, no worries. If you do, follow us @ecademyk8 .
We have also established our channel on YouTube and moved our previous Dragon Lair Cafe videos to this new channel. Please subscribe to our channel and click the notification bell so you will get notified when we go live or when we post new videos or video announcements (coming soon).
Heritage Language
Program Survey
We are hoping to offer a Heritage Language Program for the 2021-2022 school year, and would like to know what the interest might be from our families. Here is a description of what you might expect with a Heritage Language Program - "The Heritage language model is designed to provide language instruction to students in the home or heritage language of their family. When students enter the program, they may be fluent in their home language, or they may have lost their language with generational changes. The goal is to halt home language loss and ultimately recover (or newly develop) native proficiency in the language (Wiley, 1996)." We are hoping to start a Heritage Language Program for Spanish. In an effort to meet the needs of our population, we would like to survey our community to see if there is an interest in eCADEMY K8 offering a bilingual program. Please fill out the form below.
Important Dates
Communication
Teachers will be working on their website, and on a communication plan, which will be posted on their website. We understand mutual communication can be a great challenge in a completely virtual environment, but it is a critical element in finding educational success for your children. To that end, we want to be sure families know where they can look to find each of their teacher’s communication plan, so it doesn’t become a bigger barrier. Please continue to look for these updates, teachers are making these additions each day.
Additionally, we know reaching the office and a live person has been far more difficult than it should be, so we have been working diligently to ensure families are able to reach the school staff needed. The main office number and office staff emails are as follows:
